Olawatosin, Youngest Baale Honored with Prestigious Award at 9th Igbo Elerin Day

In a landmark celebration of heritage and youth leadership, Baale Olawatosin Olusegun Oladimeji Akintola SEGELU was conferred with the Youngest and Outstanding Award during the 9th Igbo Elerin Day Celebration on Saturday, April 9, 2026.

The prestigious recognition was presented by the Council of Igbo Elerin Baales in Lagelu Local Government. The award serves as a testament to Baale Eleruko’s vibrant leadership, his tireless promotion of Yoruba culture, and his dedicated service to the growth of Ibadanland.

Since his installation as the Baale of Eleruko on October 14, 2024, Olawatosin has distinguished himself as a visionary traditional ruler. He has spearheaded several initiatives aimed at fostering progress and socio-economic development within Eruko town and its surrounding communities.

In his acceptance speech, the Baale Olawatosin expressed deep gratitude to the council and the community.

“I give all glory to God Almighty, and I extend my deepest gratitude to the entire Council of Igbo Elerin Baales and the 9th Igbo Elerin Day Planning Committee for honoring me with the Award as the Youngest and Outstanding Baale win Igbo Elerin. This recognition is a privilege I do not take for granted.

I remain committed to working tirelessly for the progress and development of Igbo Elerin Land. May God continue to strengthen us all in the preservation of our rich cultural heritage. ”

In a notable gesture of statesmanlike respect, he dedicated the award to the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde.

He cited the dedication as an appreciation for the Governor’s unwavering commitment to cultural preservation and his consistent support for youth leadership across Oyo State.

The event, attended by Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen Morenikeji the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, traditional rulers, community leaders, and sons and daughters of Igbo Elerin, highlighted the vital role of young leaders in maintaining traditional institutions while driving modern development. Baale Eleruko recognition stands as a beacon of hope for youthful involvement in the governance and cultural elevation of the region.
