The National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Bwari, Abuja, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, as part of its ongoing security study tour in Oyo State.

The visiting team, identified as Syndicate 5, is currently conducting research on the theme, “Ethnic Militia and Resource Competition in Africa: Implications on National Security.” During the visit, the delegation honoured the council chairman with a Special Hospitality Award in recognition of the warm reception and support extended to them since their arrival in the state.

Syndicate 5 is made up of participants drawn from a broad range of security and paramilitary organizations, including the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alongside other local and international security institutions.

In his address, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye warmly received the delegation and described Akinyele as one of the fastest-growing local governments in Oyo State. He attributed this growth to the significant investments of the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, noting that these efforts have greatly improved socio-economic activities across the council area. He also commended the governor for sustaining a secure and peaceful environment in the state.

The Executive chairman emphasized his administration’s strong collaboration with security agencies, describing them as proactive and dependable in addressing security challenges. According to him, this synergy has improved intelligence sharing and contributed significantly to the relative peace enjoyed in the local government.

Speaking on youth development, Hon. Akinleye stressed the importance of engaging young people productively to reduce social vices. He acknowledged the state government’s efforts in youth empowerment and revealed that the local government also provides financial support for viable youth-driven initiatives. He added that numerous youths have benefitted from various empowerment and training programmes introduced under his administration.

He further expressed appreciation to the NISS team for their visit and for the recognition bestowed on him.

Responding to questions, the Executive chairman highlighted the council’s inclusive approach to security management, noting that monthly security meetings are held with key stakeholders such as security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, traditional worshippers, and market representatives.

Also present at the event were members of the council’s management team, led by the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. O.T. Adetoun, as well as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Aderinwale Abideen Adeyemi, among other officials.
