As workers across the globe mark the 2025 edition of International Workers’ Day, the Honorable Member representing Ibadan North Constituency II at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, has commended the resilience, dedication, and immeasurable contributions of Nigerian workers, especially those in Oyo State, to the growth and progress of the nation.

In a statement issued from his constituency office in Ibadan on Wednesday, Hon. Babajide Gabriel described workers as the true engine room of national development, noting that their commitment to duty, even in the face of economic challenges, remains the pillar upon which societal stability and progress rest.
He noted that International Workers’ Day is not just a celebration of labor but a moment of deep reflection on the importance of decent work, fair wages, and conducive working conditions for all workers, irrespective of sector or cadre.

“Today, we celebrate the heart and soul of our economy – the workers. From public servants to artisans, teachers, health workers, and those in the informal sector, your tireless efforts continue to shape our society and drive our economy forward,” Hon. Babajide stated.

He praised the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for implementing worker-friendly policies and ensuring regular salary payments, pensions, and welfare packages, which have continued to boost workers’ morale across the state.

While reaffirming his commitment to supporting legislation that promotes labor rights and enhances workers’ welfare, Hon. Babajide urged workers to continue upholding the ethics of diligence, honesty, and patriotism in their duties.
“As your representative, I remain committed to policies and laws that ensure a dignified life for every worker. The dignity of labor must be preserved, and we must continue to build a society where hard work is rewarded and honored,” he added.
The lawmaker used the opportunity to call for more synergy between government, labor unions, and the private sector to create opportunities for decent employment and youth empowerment, especially in an economy driven by innovation and entrepreneurship.
He concluded by wishing all Nigerian workers a peaceful and reflective Workers’ Day celebration, encouraging them to never lose hope in the nation’s future.
