Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the full rehabilitation of the 48-kilometer Ido-Eruwa road to enhance accessibility and boost economic activities in the region. The approval was announced during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Eruwa AgriHub, held in Igboora on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde highlighted Oyo State’s vast agricultural potential, citing its farm settlements, including the renowned Fashola Farms, which spans 1,000 hectares and has attracted investors from across Nigeria and parts of Africa.
The governor noted that the Eruwa AgriHub, a large-scale agricultural initiative covering nearly 4,000 hectares of land, is being developed in partnership with the African Bank of Agriculture. The project aims to create significant job opportunities for youth in the state and improve food production.
To facilitate the hub’s success and ensure better road access, the governor revealed that a sum of ₦2 billion has been allocated to the contractor handling the Ido-Eruwa road rehabilitation.
Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, commended the Makinde-led administration for its innovative approach to agricultural development. He described the Eruwa AgriHub as a transformational project and an enduring institutional legacy for future generations.
“This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to revolutionizing agriculture and creating a self-sustaining economy,” Ogundoyin said.
The ceremony was attended by a host of prominent figures, including the Director-General of a leading bank, the Special Assistant on Industrialization to President Bola Tinubu, the Oyo State Head of Service, commissioners, lawmakers, and traditional and religious leaders.
The Eruwa AgriHub is poised to solidify Oyo State’s position as a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria, attracting further investment and fostering sustainable development across the state.
