The Lagelu Local Government has announced a series of far-reaching security directives following an expanded Peace and Security Stakeholders Meeting held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the council secretariat in Iyana-Offa.

The meeting, convened by the council leadership, brought together Traditional Rulers (Obas and Baales), Islamic and Christian religious leaders, Community Development Committees (CDCs), Community Development Associations (CDAs), the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Nigeria Council of Women Societies (NCWS), the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), and both conventional and non-conventional security agencies.

In a communique issued at the end of the session, the council declared that sustained peace and security remain the foundation for socio-economic development in the area.

Key resolutions and directives include:

The Local Government has directed the immediate profiling and registration of all commercial motorcycle operators (okada riders) within its jurisdiction. The exercise, according to the council, aims to strengthen domain awareness, improve data collection on the economic sector, and enhance overall public safety and law enforcement.

All residents and indigenes have been declared critical security stakeholders and are mandated to maintain constant vigilance. The council warned that failure to promptly report suspicious activities, criminal conduct, or potential threats to security agencies will be treated as a serious breach of civic responsibility, attracting appropriate sanctions.

In a bid to tighten community-level intelligence, all landlords and house owners have been directed to submit comprehensive details of their tenants to the PCRC in their respective wards and communities, while the PCRC will, in turn, forward such records to the Local Government Security Committee for central documentation, verification, and intelligence purposes.

Residents have also been strongly advised to save and widely disseminate the Oyo State Emergency Toll-Free Number (615), for the prompt reporting of any security incident or distress call.

Furthermore, owners of large or undeveloped parcels of land have been given a directive to regularly clear their properties to prevent them from becoming hideouts for criminal elements. The council warned that defaulters will have their lands cleared by the Local Government, with the full cost recovered from the owners.

The Executive Chairman of the local government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen, who signed the communique, emphasised the administration’s commitment to a “whole-of-society” approach to security of the area.

“The Lagelu Local Government assesses that sustained peace and security constitute the foundational requirement for socio-economic development and the protection of lives and property,” the communique stated.

Hon. Kamorudeen assured residents that the council will continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of all through institutionalised community vigilance, intelligence-driven operations, multi-stakeholder coordination, and systematic data collection. The directives take immediate effect, with the council calling for full compliance from all residents, landlords, and operators within the Local Government Area.
