Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has died barely a year into his reign, plunging the ancient city into mourning.

The respected monarch passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, just two days after celebrating his 90th birthday on July 5.
Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne in July 2024, following the demise of his predecessor, Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died at 81 on March 14, 2024.

Prior to becoming Olubadan, he held the title of Balogun Olubadan. His official coronation and presentation of the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, took place on July 12, 2024, marking the beginning of his tenure as the 43rd Olubadan.

His passing, though sudden, brings to a close a reign that, while brief, carried great symbolic significance for Ibadanland.

Details regarding burial rites and succession plans are expected to be announced soon.
