On Monday 22, December 2025, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Irepo Local Government recorded massive and unprecedented defections during its general meeting held in Kishi, a development widely described as a major boost to the party’s growing dominance and grassroots acceptance across the local government.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcoming address by the Irepo PDP Chairman, Hon. Kunle Kazeem Olawoyin, who expressed profound appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and members for their unwavering loyalty and commitment. He emphasized the importance of unity, discipline, and collective responsibility, noting that the PDP remains the most credible platform for good governance and sustainable development in Irepo Local Government and Oyo State at large.

Also addressing the gathering, Alhaji Nasir Ayinde Ògèdè commended the party leadership for their relentless efforts in strengthening the PDP at the grassroots. He passionately urged all party leaders and members to continue to live in unity and work tirelessly towards the continuous success of the great party, stressing that unity remains the strongest weapon of the PDP.

The general meeting witnessed a historic and overwhelming influx of prominent political figures and their supporters into the PDP. Leading the wave of defections was Alhaji Usman Fulani, a well-known grassroots politician and formerly a strong pillar of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who commands the loyalty of Ward 02 Fulani communities. He formally joined the PDP alongside his entire political structure and followers, a development widely described by party faithful as a political earthquake in the ward.

Also defecting to the PDP was Mrs. Sherifat Oladele Bajii, a highly influential woman leader from Ward 02, renowned for her exceptional mobilization strength among women. She joined the PDP from the APC with a large number of women under her leadership, significantly boosting the party’s women wing.

Other notable decampees include Mr. Shafii and his people from Kràre (Kara), Baba Ajoke, a respected grassroots mobilizer who controls a large number of youths in Ayiifọ, Mrs. Bola Olooyo, a formidable woman leader with a wide network of women supporters, and Mr. Adebayo, a strong youth leader who commands and mobilizes youths in the Isalẹ Agoro area of Kishi.

Also joining the PDP are Baba Maryam from Ayekale, who defected with his loyal supporters, and Baba Muhammad from Lanyan, who equally joined the party with his entire political structure and followers, further swelling the PDP’s ranks and weakening the opposition across the local government.

All the Ward Chairmen present at the meeting unanimously confirmed that people are joining the PDP on a daily basis across their respective wards, describing the steady influx as unprecedented and a clear testament to the growing confidence of the people in the PDP.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Olatunji Yusuf Ajagbe, the Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Oyo State Deputy Governor, appreciated the Oyo State Governor, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, his Deputy, His Excellency Barr. Bayo Lawal, and the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Prof. Abdulwaheed Soliu Adelabu, for their righteous, people-centered, and progressive leadership. He reaffirmed that nothing can shake the PDP in Kishi or across Oyo State, noting that the continuous collapse of opposition structures into the PDP is a clear signal that the party remains the true choice of the people.

The meeting ended on a triumphant note, with party leaders and members expressing renewed confidence, unity, and determination to work collectively towards ensuring the continued success and electoral victories of the PDP in Irepo Local Government and beyond.
