The Executive Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaji Lawal Lateef Adebare, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the lingering leadership crisis rocking the party at both the state and national levels.

Adebare announced his resignation in a letter dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Ikogba Area, Ayete, in Ibarapa North Local Government.

In the letter, the council chairman said his decision to quit the party takes immediate effect.

According to him, although he had remained a loyal member of the PDP since its creation, the unresolved internal leadership crisis within the party had made it difficult for him to continue as a member in good conscience.

“This decision was not taken lightly. I have been a loyal member of the PDP since its creation,” he stated.

“However, the internal leadership crisis currently rocking the party at the state and federal levels has made it difficult for me to continue in good conscience.”

Adebare noted that while the crisis may not have directly affected the party structure within his local government, its wider implications on the unity, direction, and future of the PDP could not be ignored.

The local government chairman described his exit from the party as painful but necessary, saying he needed to focus on his personal political future and the mandate given to him by the people of Ibarapa North.

“It is disheartening to leave at this time, but it has become necessary so I can focus on myself and on the mandate entrusted to me by the people of Ibarapa North Local Government in my capacity as their executive chairman,” the letter added.

He also requested that his name be removed from all PDP registers and platforms with immediate effect.

Adebare further disclosed that he would announce his next political move at a later date, while appreciating party members, supporters, and political associates for their support and cooperation over the years.

“I will discuss my next political move in due course. I regret whatever pain this decision may cause my followers and political associates and I appreciate the support and opportunities I have received over the years,” he said.

The resignation is expected to further fuel political discussions and realignments within Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially amid ongoing tensions and leadership disputes within the PDP.
