Olooye Adegboyega Toafeek Adegoke FCA, has expressed deep pride in his Ibadan heritage during the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival, describing the ancient city as a beacon of history, progress, and cultural excellence.

Olooye Adegoke, Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland and serves as President of the Jericho Businessmen Club (JBC), made the remarks at the prestigious host of the festival in celebrating with indigenes at the colourful annual event.

Speaking on the significance of Ibadan in Nigeria’s historical development, he highlighted the city’s legacy as a trailblazer, noting that Ibadan is widely regarded as the “Home of Firsts” and that was where Oyo State gets The Pacesetter. According to him, the city played host to several landmark achievements that shaped modern Nigeria, including the establishment of Nigerian Television Authority, the iconic Cocoa House the first skyscraper in West Africa and the prestigious University of Ibadan, the nation’s first university.

He further commended the traditional institution of Ibadanland, describing its structure as uniquely organized and deeply rooted in history, which continues to foster unity and orderly leadership succession within the city.

Adegoke also lauded the Ibadan Cultural Festival, describing it as one of the most remarkable cultural celebrations globally. He praised its role in preserving the rich heritage, customs, and identity of the Ibadan people while promoting tourism and cultural pride.

“I am happy and proud to be from Ibadan,” he stated, urging all sons and daughters of the city, both at home and in the diaspora, to remain committed to the growth and preservation of their cultural heritage.

Adegoke also hinted that he is still much in the gubernatorial race of Oyo State for 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival attracted dignitaries, traditional leaders, and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond, further reinforcing Ibadan’s status as a major cultural hub in the country.
