The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, has congratulated Ibarapa-born Mrs. Adenike Ayobami Fasina on her appointment as the new Head of the State Civil and Public Service, describing the elevation as a proud moment for Ibarapa and for women in public service across the state.

In a statement released to journalists in Ibadan on Friday, Adegoke said Fasina’s appointment is a clear recognition of merit, diligence and years of dedicated service. She noted that Fasina, who hails from Eruwa in Ibarapa land, joined the Oyo State civil service in 2000 and rose steadily through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance before her latest elevation.

“I celebrate an Ibarapa daughter, Mrs. Adenike Ayobami Fasina, on her well-deserved appointment as Head of the State Civil and Public Service,” the commissioner said. “From joining the service in 2000 to rising as Permanent Secretary in Finance, her journey is a story of consistency, professionalism and commitment to duty. Ibarapa is proud, and Oyo State has gained a technocrat with deep knowledge of public administration and finance.”

Adegoke commended Governor Seyi Makinde for the appointment, saying it reflects his administration’s commitment to meritocracy and to giving women more leadership roles in governance. She expressed confidence that Fasina’s experience in financial management will strengthen accountability, transparency and efficiency in the civil service as the administration implements the Omituntun agenda.

The commissioner also appreciated the outgoing Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Olufunke Oni, mni, who is retiring after years of impactful service. Adegoke acknowledged Oni’s contributions to staff training, welfare and institutional reforms that have improved service delivery across ministries, departments and agencies.

“As we welcome Mrs. Fasina, we must not forget Mrs. Oni’s legacy,” Adegoke noted. “She served Oyo State with honour and left the civil service better than she met it. I pray her retirement is peaceful and rewarding.”

She urged civil servants across the 33 local government areas to support the new Head of Service, adding that unity and dedication from the workforce will be critical to sustaining the reforms already underway. Adegoke further assured Fasina of the cooperation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, noting that a strong civil service remains key to youth development and sports growth in the state.

“On behalf of Oyo youths, we thank Governor Makinde for prioritizing competence and for entrusting this critical office to an Ibarapa-born professional,” she concluded. “We pray for wisdom, good health and a successful tenure for Mrs. Fasina as she leads the civil service to greater heights.”
