GSM Advocates Rates Makinde’s 7-Year Tenure ‘Strategic, People-Centered

GSM Advocates, promoters of good governance of Governor Seyi Makinde says the governor has met key governance benchmarks as he marks seven years in office, citing sustained progress across infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and social welfare.

In a statement released Friday by Deputy Director Bashorun Saintabey, the movement described Makinde’s approach as “strategic, deliberate, and people-centered.”

“Governor Seyi Makinde’s seven years in office have been defined by clear milestones that reflect strategic leadership,” the statement read. “From the upgrade of critical road networks and expansion of primary healthcare centers, to reforms in basic education and new investments in agribusiness, the administration has shown a deep understanding of Oyo’s development needs.”

GSM Advocates and lovers and promoters of good governance of Governor Seyi Makinde also commended the administration’s commitment to transparency, budget accountability, and direct engagement with citizens. The group highlighted social intervention programmes targeted at women, youth, and the elderly as evidence of an inclusive governance model.

The movement condemned the recent abduction of students and staff at a school in Oriire Local Government, Ogbomoso, and expressed solidarity with affected families.

“No child belongs in captivity. No parent should endure that pain,” the statement said. “We stand with the families of the abducted students and staff in Oriire. GSM Advocates and lovers and promoters of good governance of Governor Seyi Makinde call on security agencies and the state government to leave no stone unturned in securing their immediate and safe release.”

The group offered prayers for Governor Makinde, First Lady Engr. Mrs. Olufunke Tamunominini Makinde, Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, cabinet members, and all political appointees.

“We pray for renewed strength, wisdom, and capacity for this administration to finish strong,” it added. “As Governor Makinde continues his second term, the people of Oyo State expect more innovation and people-driven projects that will further improve quality of life.”

GSM Advocates and lovers and promoters of good governance of Governor Seyi Makinde concluded that the governor’s seven-year record provides a solid foundation for accelerated growth and development in the remaining years of his tenure.
