The Forum of Local Government Special Assistants in Oyo State has Kickstarted the 57th birthday celebration of the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde with a documentary detailing his achievements in the last five years of his government at the helms of affairs in Oyo State and distribution of free exercise books to 15 secondary schools across the three senatorial districts in the State ahead of the Governor’s December 25th birthday.
The documentary program and unveiling of the exercise books took place at House of Chiefs, Oyo State House of Assembly Complex by the deputy governor of the State, Barrister Raheem Bayo Lawal who was represented by Barrister Kunle Sani. He described the initiative of the local government SAs as laudable.
He urged the forum to continue to support and work collectively with their respective local government chairmen in bringing defends of democracy to people at grassroots.
In his address, the Chairman of chairmen in Oyo State and the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Sanda said despite being the ones with lowest salaries amongst the appointees they are only ones who have done something substantially huge for the people by giving back to the students who would be the beneficiaries of the free exercise books, thereby taking the burdens off their parents’ necks.
The Egbeda Local Government commended them for a well-done job while also urging them to not relent in their bids to give back to the society as that will be their stepstone to something greater than their current position.
The father of the day, Hon. Adigun Abass Agboworin who was represented by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Engr Akin Akinleye, commended FOLGSA for choosing to celebrate the birthday of Governor Seyi Makinde by giving back to the society that made them.
Speaking on the theme: “Leadership and Legacy: Exploring GSM’s Leadership Style and the Impact of His Legacy in Oyo State.”keynote speaker of the event, Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his exemplary leadership, particularly highlighting his style of governance, which emphasizes openness, inclusivity, and accessibility.
He cited the recent town hall meeting held by Governor Makinde, where citizens were directly engaged in discussions about the state’s budget, as a powerful example of leadership that listens and responds to the needs of the people.
“Governor Makinde has shown that a great leader listens. His approach to governance, where the public is not just informed but actively engaged, is a lesson in participatory leadership. The recent town hall meeting on the budget is a prime example of how a leader should be in tune with the concerns of his people,” Adegoke stated.
He also urged the SAs to imbibe the attributes of Engr Seyi Makinde in their dealings at their respective local government areas as that is the only way to building a long term legacy.
The deputy speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Abiodun Fadeyi commended the forum for complementing the efforts of the state government in the area of education by giving out free exercise books to public secondary school students.
The event also witnessed presentation of awards to Hon. Adigun Abass Agboworin, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke who was represented by Mr. Ogunsina Oluwaseun Micheal, the Oyo State PDP youth leader andy acting PRO; Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke and Chairman of chairmen in Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Oyo State.
In his address, the Coordinator of the Forum of Local Government Special Assistants in Oyo state Hon. Adetunji Wareez Ajetunmobi said the forum organized the event to celebrate Governor Makinde and drum support for his administration.
Present at the occasion were the Head of Service, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters who were all represented by the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Deacon Adewale.
