The former Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Raphael Afonja, has distributed cash gifts to members of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen the party and improve the welfare of members and executives at the grassroots.
The cash donation, which cut across the 10 wards of the local government and the party’s executive members, was announced during the APM general meeting held on Friday at DC Primary School, Orita Naira, Ogbomoso.
Afonja stated that Governor Seyi Makinde has made tremendous impact in the development of Oyo State, and that this informed his resolve to wholeheartedly back the APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and his running mate, Engr. Open Salawu, an Ogbomoso indigene.
While addressing party leaders and members, Afonja urged them to rally round “their son” who was picked as deputy governorship candidate.

“The position of deputy governor is a great opportunity that will spur the development of Ogbomoso land. This is our time to show unity and ensure we do not let it slip away,” he said.
The former commissioner however maintained that unity remains the strength needed for victory in the forthcoming general elections.
He recalled that the emergence of Governor Seyi Makinde in 2019 was made possible by collective effort and unity, stressing that “no individual alone is capable of winning an election.”
Afonja further assured party members that there are several opportunities in government when APM emerges victorious.
He said those who have not benefited from the party in the past will be carried along, urging them to ensure the victory of the party across all wards ahead of the forthcoming election.
“I call on everyone to work together towards the success of all APM candidates. We must not allow divisions to set in. This is the time to be united,” he added.
Hon. Afonja equally noted that with the good work of Governor Makinde and the growing strength of the party, the APC has become jittery over the dominance and popularity of the PDP in the Ogbomoso zone.
He, therefore, called on members and leaders to rally round all APM candidates to secure a resounding victory.
Afonja also urged members not to listen to claims that the governor is not taking care of party members.
“The governor is doing his best, but we are the ones not reciprocating the gesture. Governor Makinde will continue to support the affairs of the party at the grassroots level,” he said.
The Ex-Commissioner for Works and Transport, assured that reconciliation efforts have already been activated to bring back aggrieved members and build a formidable party ahead of the elections.
He appealed to youths and women to mobilize massively for all APM candidates, emphasizing that their support will be critical to achieving total victory in the forthcoming general elections.
