“To God Be The Glory” The Winner of 2025 edition of the Olubadan Olakulehin cup which came to a thrilling conclusion on Tuesday 5th August at Olubadan stadium in which Egbeda Market emerged as champions of the grassroot football competion.

The Executive Chairman of Egbeda local government, Hon Sanda Sikiru Oyedele was decorated with medal by the winning team to appreciate the unrelenting efforts of the chairman before, during and after the tournament.

The competition which featured 17 registered teams drawn from markets across Ibadan metropolis which was open to all age brackets and group into four clusters.

In a keenly contested final match, Egbeda Market secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Araromi Gate Market in which winning goal came in the 38th minutes of the first half courtesy of a fine strike from Oribayo Oluseye Matthew. And Egbeda Market held on to claim the coveted title and the accompanying prize money of #500,000.

The grand finale drew a large crowd of supporters and football enthusiasts which was well graced by dignitaries from across the state which were the Executive Chairman of Egbeda local government, Hon Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, Prince Folaseke Olakulehin, Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekini Abass, Iyaloja General of Ibadanland, Chief Mrs Oguntola Iswat Amerongen, Comrade Niyi Alebiosu, members of Oyo State Football Association, representatives of market leaders and community development groups.

“You have inspired Egbeda local government for represented us well, we will continue to encourage you, the next generation and other generations after you ” Hon Sanda said amid cheers from the jubilant team.

Hon Sanda recounted the emotional moment of the final match, noting how the team’s performance lifted Egbeda market spirit, added that their victory represents more than a sporting accomplishment but a triumph of courage, determination, discipline and consistency.

In a further show of appreciation, the chairman reiterates their exceptional performance and unwavering spirit, describing their victory as a testament to resilience, teamwork and determination.

The coach of Egbeda market football team expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the reception and the unwavering belief the chairman showed them.

With the chairman to receive the football team were the vice chairman of Egbeda local government, Hon Ibrahim Oladebo simple, secretary to the local government, Hon Temitope Aworele, Chief of staff, Alhaji Siyanbola Adisa, Chief Dr Alaga Ayo Monsurat, Alhaji Babatunde Ganiyu, Super for Youths and Sports, Hon Adio Babatunde Qozeem and Mrs Falana.
