Egbeda Achieves Open Defecation-Free Status as Makinde, Sanda Oyedele Receive Commendation

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, have been warmly congratulated following the landmark declaration of Egbeda Local Government as Open Defecation Free (ODF).

The declaration was made by the National Task Force Group on Sanitation at its 8th meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR).

The achievement marks a significant milestone in Egbeda Local Government’s efforts to promote improved sanitation, environmental cleanliness, public health and the overall well-being of its residents. It also reflects the commitment of the Oyo State Government and the administration of Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele to creating a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for the people.

Attaining the ODF status is a testament to the collective efforts of government officials, environmental health personnel, community leaders, sanitation stakeholders and residents who have embraced and promoted proper sanitation practices across the local government.

Special appreciation is extended to the Head of Local Government Administration, Egbeda Local Government, Dr. Alaga Ayo Monsurat; the Director of Environmental Health Services; Sanitation Baale, Victoria; and the entire management and staff of Egbeda Local Government for their dedication, teamwork and invaluable contributions towards achieving this historic feat.

Their commitment and tireless efforts have demonstrated the importance of effective leadership, institutional collaboration and active community participation in achieving sustainable sanitation goals.

While celebrating this remarkable milestone, the administration has urged residents of Egbeda Local Government to sustain the achievement by continuing to observe proper sanitation and hygiene practices, while ensuring that communities remain clean, healthy and environmentally safe.

The ODF declaration is not only a recognition of progress but also a call for continued vigilance and collective responsibility. Residents, community leaders and relevant stakeholders must work together to ensure that Egbeda maintains its Open Defecation Free status.
