Almost seven years ago, Engr. Seyi Makinde stood in the heart of Ibadan, Oyo State’s vibrant capital, and took the oath of office. With his right hand on a Holy Bible, he solemnly vowed to uphold his duties, protect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and serve the people of Oyo State with unwavering integrity.

In his inaugural address, Governor Makinde, the CEO of Makon , articulated his resolute vision: ‘Our people deserve opportunities to pursue their dreams of happiness and prosperity in an environment of security, peace, justice, and understanding.’ His words reflected a commitment to creating a better Oyo State, where citizens can thrive and reach their full potential.”

As Governor Seyi Makinde’s term in office draws to a close as another election circle is around the corner, the impact of his leadership is undeniable. He has not only fulfilled campaign promises but exceeded expectations, demonstrating a leadership style that values substance over showmanship. His calm and composed approach has shown that significant achievements can be attained without fanfare, leaving a lasting legacy in Oyo State.

“For almost seven years, Governor Makinde has driven key initiatives focused on generating employment opportunities, fostering wealth creation, providing skills training, and nurturing entrepreneurial leaders. His overarching goal is to reduce the state’s reliance on government jobs, tackle youth unrest, and enhance economic diversification and competitiveness, ultimately building a more resilient and thriving Oyo State.

“Governor Makinde consistently prioritizes Oyo State civil servants’ welfare, making the state a top performer in timely salary payments among Nigeria’s civil service. The state is also among Nigeria’s largest employers of labour, driving job creation and public service growth.”

The people of Oyo State are poised to support whoever Governor Seyi Makinde suggests for the 2027 gubernatorial election, trusting his judgment and wanting to build on the progress made so far. The “Omituntun” approach has served the state well, bringing tangible benefits and improvements in areas like infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. Citizens believe it’s what they need more of to achieve even greater heights, drive sustainable development, and cement Oyo State’s position as a thriving hub in Nigeria. With Governor Makinde’s endorsement, they’re confident the next leader will prioritize the people’s welfare and continue the momentum.

His administration has constructed and rehabilitated over 545.26km of roads across the state. Four modern bus terminals have been built in Ibadan, including Challenge, Ojoo, New Ife Road, and Iwo Road. The Light Up Oyo Project is improving lighting in Ibadan and other areas, with Phase II covering 70 roads totaling 223.42 kilometers. The Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, a 110km project, is expected to drive economic growth and improve connectivity. Farm estates and agribusiness industrial hubs are being developed to boost agriculture. Solar-powered projects and water supply infrastructure are also being enhanced to improve energy access. Most of these achievements are setting benchmarks for sound administration in Nigeria, and residents are eager to see his party’s best choice continue the good governance trajectory in Oyo State.

According to Oyo State Ministry of Health, under-five mortality has reduced from 64/1,000 live births to 23/1,000 live births. Child mortality has reduced from 24/1,000 live births to 5/1,000 live births. Maternal mortality has reduced from 296/100,000 live births to 244/100,000 live births. 351 primary healthcare facilities have been upgraded, one in each ward. Secondary healthcare facilities like Ring Road State Hospital, Adeoyo, and General Hospital Eruwa have been upgraded. The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency has increased enrollees from 69,996 in Sept 2019 to 255,140 in May 2025. 3,933 healthcare personnel have been recruited and deployed to various facilities statewide. A €55 million concessional loan facility has been approved to upgrade secondary healthcare facilities and establish public-health-relevant services.

Given his achievements, Oyo State needs a capable successor who can build on his progress and sustain the momentum of development. The incumbent governor’s endorsement would be a significant boost for the state, ensuring continuity and further growth. A well-nurtured successor, backed by Governor Makinde’s recommendation and residents massive support, would likely maintain the trajectory of good governance and progress in Oyo State.
