*Breaking: Atiba LG PDP Expels Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju and Hon. Akerele Kayode Over Anti-party Activities*

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward (04) Isale-Basorun and Ward (01) Oke-Aafin, in Atiba local government areas of Oyo State, has expelled Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju Basorun and Hon. Akerele Kayode Oyewole from the party.

According to the ward chairmen, the incumbent Supervisor for Health in Atiba local government, Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju Basorun, and the secretary to Atiba local government, Hon. Akerele Kayode Oyewole, were expelled for alleged anti-party activities and defamation of character against a loyal party member.

Briefing the media at an emergency meeting held at L. A Primary School, Saabo, Oyo, the expulsion of the duo was conveyed in a letter signed by the ward chairmen, ward executives, leaders, and stakeholders.

Reading the dismissal of Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju Basorun, Atiba PDP Party chairman, Hon. Kabiru Ashamu, citing a letter dated 18th January 2024, by ward 04 Chairman, Mr. Sule Tajudeen stated that, “We, the undersigned party executives officers of ward 04, Basorun zone, have hereby informed the chairman and executive members of Atiba local government that Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju Basorun is no longer a PDP member.”

“The decision was made after proven allegations of anti-party activities and defamation of character, confirmed by him and not denied.”

“Sequel to this, the party will not fold arms and continue to tolerate the anti-party activities and indiscipline of Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju Basorun.”

“In this case, the image of PDP is much more concerned with the ward executives. We hereby dismiss and expel Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju Basorun as a member of our great party in Ward 04, Basorun of Atiba local government.”

Similarly, the letter of expulsion for the Atiba local government secretary, Hon. Akerele Kayode Oyewole, was received from Ward (01) party chairman, Hon. Ojelabi Rasheed, stating, “On behalf of the entire ward members, the disciplinary committee, the ward executives, and stakeholders in ward 01, we, the undersigned, wish to inform you about our discussions on the allegations levied against you in respect to a petition submitted by a lawyer to Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), dated 8th September 2023.”

“Aside from the petition, the leadership and followership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward One feel embarrassed and insulted about your open utterances to impugn the personality of our chairmanship candidate openly when you appeared before the Apex leadership forum of Atiba local government on Tuesday, 14th November, 2023.”

“During the said appearance, you publicly opened up that you were responsible for running after the chairmanship candidate, Hon. Wahab Waliu Adetunji.”

“You further stated that you had investigated the candidate at Lagunna and confirmed the PDP candidate, Hon. Wahabi Waliu Adetunji, did not attend the school at Lagunna. You thereafter strongly advised the leaders to take you seriously because you were representing the interest of the party through your nefarious activities.”

“Mr. Akerele, you will remember again that you alleged that you are protecting the interest of some individuals offended by our PDP chairmanship candidate. You also further stated that you are a PDP member in Ward One (01) and Wabkem did not consult with you that he was running for chairmanship. During the same appearance, you confirmed to the leadership forum that you also personally called the State Secretary of the party, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, and warned him against the Party decision on the Chairmanship candidature of Hon. Wahabi Waliu Adetunji (Wabkem).”

“Given the above allegations leveled against you, we, of the PDP in Ward One, see the summary of these allegations as equal to anti-party activities, a betrayer of trust reposed in you as a Party leader, and a mockery of commitment expected from a politician like you. It is disloyalty to the PDP in Ward 01 (Oke-Aafin), and it has therefore been resolved that you are expelled from the party in Ward 01 (Oke-Aafin).”

Reacting to the expulsion of Hon. Goke Azeez, Mama Akinpelu, Hon. Waliu, Hon. Nathaniel, all Ward chairmen, and others upheld the decisions to unify the party bound with peace and harmony.

Making the expulsion official, the party chairman, Hon. Kabiru Ashamu, seconded by his Vice Alhaji Alesinladu and other local executives, stated that the expulsion of Hon. Afeez Olanrewaju Basorun and Hon. Akerele Kayode Oyewole followed a thorough investigation, adding that the duo was later found guilty of the allegations against them, particularly anti-party activities and defamation of character.

“Your action is gross misconduct, and you are hereby expelled forthwith from the party,” Ashamu stated.

In attendance were; Yusuff Rahman (Owotabua), Tayo Agboola, leader Isiaka Asiwaju, Alhaji Mustapha Alesinladu (local Vice Chairman), Hon. Kabiru Ashamu (Atiba party chairman), Alhaji Quadri Olatunji, Iya Akinpelu, Iya Sola, Baba Soldier, Leader Opeyemi Adeyi, leader Salawu, Rasaq Asiwaju, Leader Goke Azeez, Hon. Wale Ajibade (Yomoko), leader Kabiru, Alhaji Adebisi, Hon. Muideen Tijani Oyedele (former party Chairman).
