Assaulted newly elected APC Chairman on ‘danger list’ …Police trail attackers

The newly sworn in Chairman of the All Progresives Congress(APC) in Itesiwaju Local Government of Oyo State, Hon Kayode Adeniji, is on danger list in an undisclosed hospital following the attack on him by some politicians and thugs from the local government at the APC secretariat in Ibadan on Friday.

Hon Adeniji was sworn in as Chairman of the party in the council area on Friday at the State party secretariat alongside 29 other elected chairmen. He was mobbed by some identified politicians and a rented group of thugs at the party secretariat during the event.

Sources at the party secretariat in Ibadan reported that the embattled politician was rescued by party chieftain but it was evident that he was distressed after the attack by the thugs allegedly rented to oppose his election as Chairman of the party.

Investigation revealed that Hon Adeniji, who had earlier served as Vice Chairman of the council area under the government of Senator Abiola Ajimobi, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the early hours of Saturday after his health deteriorated. Family sources revealed that he is ‘ between life and death. Sources close to him disclosed that reports had been made to the police for the apprehension and prosecution of his attackers. ‘The Police has promised to investigate and bring anyone found culpable to book, no matter how highly placed’, disclosed the source.

The party had been engulfed in a controversy in the council area after 19 of the 24 stakeholders in the party elected Hon. Adeniji as party chairman in compliance with the party directive to elect its officers through the consensus method.

A group in the party insisted on the continuation of the old executive committee in office,a position resisted by majority members of the stakeholders of the party. Another splinter group that purportedly elected a woman chairperson for the party in the council area also laid claim to the position. The group has however gone silent, suggesting that its well publicised claim was a fluke.

The newly elected state Chairman of the party,Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo sworn in 30 chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Secretaries of the party in 30 council areas including Itesiwaju Local Government councils.

In a release signed by the Publicity Secreatary of the Party,the party chairmen appealed to members to thread the path of peace and unity.
