The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State has continued to gain political momentum ahead of the 2027 elections as prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including grassroots mobilisers formerly with Hon. Tolulope Sadipe, formally defected to the party with hundreds of their followers.

The defectors were led by Chief Adewale Alatise, popularly known as Afama, alongside other prominent APC leaders and grassroots political actors in the local government.

Among those who joined the APM were Reverend Adeniyi Oluwarotimi, Temitope Emmanuel, Asasile Oluwabunmi and Alaba Isiaka, who were said to have mobilised their supporters to follow them into the APM.

The Oluyole APM chairman, Alhaji Hamzat Nasir, while welcoming the defectors said the development has further expands the growing grassroots membership base of the party, coming amid increasing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defectors were received by leaders of the APM in Oluyole Local Government, including the party chairman, Hon. Nasiru Hamzat; the party’s chairmanship candidate, Hon. Olaide Settle; and the Oluyole Local Government Vice Chairman, Hon. Adeniyi Akorede.

Others at the defection reception included the Oluyole APM Vice Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Arewa; the party’s Ward 10 councillorship candidate, Hon. Wale Arapaja; and Hon. Abiola Alimi.

Speaking during the reception, the APM leaders in their separate remarks, welcomed the new members, describing their decision to join the party as a further indication of the growing acceptance of the APM at the grassroots across the state.

According to them, the latest defection will add to the political strength of the APM in Oluyole, particularly with the involvement of experienced grassroots mobilisers with established networks across the local government.

The APM House of Representative candidate for Oluyole federal constituency who is also the incumbent chairman of the council, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, said the party has continued to intensify its grassroots and ward to ward mobilisation across Oluyole as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the unprecedented transformation that the administration of governor Seyi Makinde has brought about in the state has remain a key selling point for the APM.

He added that regardless of being opposition, members of the APC in Oluyole and the incumbent House of Reps member could not disagree with the socioeconomic turnaround and improved quality of life that the the APM has brought into governance.

While welcoming the defectors into the party, Olatunji urged them to feel free to go anywhere and actively participate in all political engagements of APM to ensure landslide victory for all of its candidates come 2027.

Olatunji, who noted that the era of false propaganda and rhetoric to dissuade voters has gone into extinction as electorate have become more politically aware and conscious of reality on ground in terms of political leadership and good governance.

“We really don’t have to and we will not go so low into the gutters with the APC in their usual political rites where deception, false propaganda, and desperation remain the hallmarks of their campaigns.

“They have remained so disconnected with the ordinary Nigerians so much that their falsehood have become their reality. We’re however happy that we’re now in the era of ‘operation show your results’.

“These people who have joined us in APM today are what we call ‘APC spinal cords’ and at this point, we can confidently say the party is literally dead in Oluyole federal constituency.

” We will show them workings and how to get the job done. It is not about media rhetoric and deliberate spread of falsehood to appear existing while we continue to harvest their key actors,” Olatunji said.
