Akande: We Will Not Allow Fear in Our Schools Backs NSCDC Initiative in IBSWLG

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Adeyemo Akande, has pledged full support for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Safe Schools and Agro Rangers Programme.

Akande made this known on Wednesday, 12th August 2026, while speaking as Host Speaker at a One Day Lecture organized by NSCDC Ibadan South West Division at the Divisional Headquarters Hall, 33 Dick Road, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The lecture with the theme “The responsibilities of the Principal, Teacher and other Stakeholders in tackling security challenges within the school environment and Roles of NSCDC in securing agriculture” drew principals, teachers, farmers, students, parents and security stakeholders.

The Chairman who was represented by Dr. Bashorun Adeniji said schools must remain citadels of learning and not theaters of fear. He noted that principals, teachers and community members have a collective duty to ensure safety through vigilance and partnership with security agencies.

He commended the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant, ACC Sanda Ajibola, and the Divisional Officer, CSC Oshin, for the initiative, adding that Ibadan South West Local Government under his Administration will continue to support efforts that keep schools and farms safe.

In a show of commitment to the Safe Schools Initiative, Hon. Akande donated educational materials including notebooks and reflective vests to students and participants at the event. The donation was aimed at supporting learning in schools and promoting safety consciousness among pupils, while the vests will help students and volunteers identify themselves easily during school safety drills and community awareness programmes.

He urged everyone present to be more alert, more united and more proactive in protecting schools and agricultural communities. According to him, security is a shared responsibility and no agency can do it alone. He charged principals to strengthen supervision, teachers to serve as first responders, parents to monitor their children, and students to speak up when they notice anything suspicious. He also called on farmers and community leaders to work closely with the NSCDC Agro Rangers to safeguard farms and food production in the area.

Dignitaries at the event included the the representative of Traditional Rulers Magaji Ariori,Area A Command, NSCDC Oyo State Command, ACC Sanda Ajibola, Supt. Samuel Tamwo; the Divisional Police Officer, Iyaganku; representatives of the CDC; school Principals; ASC1 Kolawole Alawode of Agro Rangers Unit; SC SAMUEL Opebiyi, the NSCDC Oyo State Command Public Relations Officer (PRO),DSS, OYTMA, Tutor General,representative of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Teachers; Students; farmers’ leaders; and other stakeholders who pledged their support for safer schools and a more secure agricultural sector in Ibadan South West.
