In celebration of African Youth Day, the Ibadan NorthWest chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Oyo State has announced the launch of a dynamic online platform (https://bit.ly/Ibnwye1)
ahead of the main program.

The event, which marks the continent-wide observance of African Youth Day, is aimed at bringing young people together to discuss critical issues affecting the youth in Africa, such as education, employment, and the overall empowerment of young individuals in society. The online platform, which was launched to encourage broader participation and connect all the youth in the local government.

The African Youth Day, celebrated annually on November 1st, recognizes the contributions and potential of the continent’s youth. This year’s theme for the celebration is “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Development.” The event aims to promote the active involvement of young people in all aspects of national development, with particular focus on education, health, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy.

The main event which will take place on 22 November 2024, at the Ibadan NorthWest Council Secretariat in Onireke, Ibadan will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and youth-led workshops. Several prominent figures, including government officials, youth leaders, and advocates, are expected to attend the program, which will center around pressing issues affecting Nigerian youth, such as job creation, access to quality education, and the role of technology in youth development.

In a statement by the NYCN Ibadan NorthWest chapter coordinator, Comrade Olusegun C. A. Taiwo OCAT expressed his commitment to bridge the gap between young people and leadership, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in building a sustainable future. “This initiative is a call to action for every youth in Ibadan and across Nigeria to get involved and help shape the policies that will directly impact their lives,” said the coordinator”.

The event promises to be an impactful and engaging experience for the youth of Ibadan and beyond, offering them an opportunity to network, learn, and advocate for a more inclusive and youth-centered approach to governance and development.

As part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the success of African Youth Day, the National Youth Council of Nigeria has called on all youth groups, student organizations, and other stakeholders to participate and contribute to the dialogue around youth empowerment and sustainable development.

The event is expected to attract hundreds of youth participants, both in-person and virtually, with the ultimate goal of fostering collaboration and creating actionable solutions to some of the challenges facing young people today.
