You’ve shown courage as worthy legislators – Awoleye…hails Oyo Assembly over vote of confidence in Makinde, Speaker A front line aspirant for Oyo South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election, Hon. Dada Awoleye, has commended members of the Oyo State House of Assembly for what he described as a bold and timely reaffirmation of their vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker of the House. This follows the unanimous reaffirmation of the house at the Wednesday’s plenary sitting where the impeachment rumours that stirred political tension across the state was permanently laid to rest. Awoleye, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and a two-term member of the House of Representatives, said the lawmakers demonstrated courage and responsibility in the face of what he termed “unnecessary distractions capable of denting the image of the state.” In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, the senatorial hopeful praised the legislators for what he called their maturity and unwavering commitment to democratic principles. “You have shown the expected courage as worthy legislators. At a time when unfounded rumours and political mischief threatened to create instability, you rose above partisan pressures and placed the interest of Oyo State first,” Awoleye said. He noted that the swift action taken by the Assembly not only doused tension but also reinforced public confidence in the state’s democratic institutions. According to him, the reaffirmation of confidence in both the executive and legislative leadership helped to officially put an end to what could have been a major political crisis. “The decision of the House to speak with one voice has saved Oyo State from a monumental political embarrassment. It sends a clear message that governance in the state remains focused, stable, people-oriented, and can not be manipulated any form of external forces,” he added. Awoleye further emphasized that the synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government is critical to sustaining development and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. He urged political actors in the state to refrain from spreading misinformation capable of heating up the polity, warning that such actions undermine democratic progress. “This is not the time for divisive politics or baseless allegations. Oyo State has made significant strides under the current administration, and all well-meaning stakeholders must work together to preserve the peace and stability we currently enjoy,” he stated. The senatorial aspirant also expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Makinde, noting that his administration has continued to prioritize infrastructure, education, security, and economic growth. He encouraged the lawmakers to remain steadfast in their duties, assuring them that their constituents who value responsible and people-centered representation would continue to support them in their duties to the state. The Oyo State House of Assembly had earlier passed a vote of confidence in Governor Makinde and the Speaker, effectively dismissing speculations of an impeachment plot that had gained traction in political circles. The development, since Wednesday, has since been widely interpreted as a move to stabilize the political climate and reaffirm unity within the state’s leadership.

A former Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election following a consultative visit to members of the Oyo State House of Assembly.

Adekanmbi made the declaration during his engagement with lawmakers at the Assembly complex, where he emphasized the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government in delivering effective governance.

Addressing the legislators, the governorship hopeful assured that, if elected, his administration would prioritize the welfare of lawmakers and foster a cordial working relationship with the Assembly, similar to what currently exists under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.

He noted that mutual respect and institutional harmony are critical to sustaining development and ensuring that policies and programs are implemented without unnecessary friction.

“I am here not just to declare my intention, but to seek your support and partnership. Governance is more effective when there is synergy between both arms. I will sustain and strengthen the existing relationship, while also ensuring that the welfare of lawmakers is given due attention,” Adekanmbi stated.

The former commissioner commended the Assembly for its role in maintaining stability and supporting policies that have contributed to the growth and development of the state, adding that continuity in cooperation would be key to achieving greater progress.

He further reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, promising to carry all stakeholders along in the decision-making process if given the mandate to lead the state.

The visit is widely seen as part of Adekanmbi’s early consultations and strategic engagements ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial race, as political activities gradually begin to gather momentum in Oyo State.
