Oyo LG election: Ibadan traditional council of Baales visits OYSIEC, pledges more grassroot advocacy to ensure peaceful polls.
Baales in Ibadan both from main city and lesser city under the aegis of traditional council of Baales in Ibadanland have promised to embark on more community advocacy to prevail on the people to embrace peaceful conducts during the local government election.
The council under the leadership of Dr Taiye Ayorinde and Wasiu Elite paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) Ibadan to register their support to the commission for a free, fair and credible poll.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Baale Yemi Ogunyemi of Oluyole estate and its environs acknowledged the importance of local government elections because of its proximity to the people and explained that as opinion leaders in their various communities they considered it necessary to collaborate with OYSIEC to preach the gospel of peace.
Baale Ogunyemi emphasized that though their roles are not constitutionally recognized, but because of the respect they have earned as community leaders, they could prevail on their people to conduct themselves peacefully during the council elections, adding that OYSIEC needed sufficient stakeholders support to thoroughly execute its mandate.
The Baales equally admonished politicians particularly candidates in the local government elections not to sponsor their followers to foment violence as only God can install a leader.
