Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State has recorded another milestone in grassroots infrastructure development with the official commissioning of the Engr. Seyi Makinde Marriage Registry and Multi-Purpose Hall by the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Barrister AbdulRaheem Adebayo Adekeke Lawal.
The newly constructed facility was delivered under the administration of the Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. Temitope Kolapo Glorious, as part of efforts to strengthen public infrastructure, improve service delivery and enhance the council’s internally generated revenue.
The commissioning ceremony marked a significant moment in the development of Ona Ara, as the facility is designed to provide a dedicated venue for marriage ceremonies, official engagements, social events and other community activities.
Named in honour of Governor Seyi Abiodun Makinde, the project reflects the administration’s commitment to expanding public facilities and promoting sustainable grassroots development across Oyo State.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Glorious acknowledged the Governor’s leadership, support and development vision, appreciating his contributions towards strengthening grassroots governance and improving the lives of residents across the state.
The event attracted prominent political leaders and stakeholders, including the APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and his running mate, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, alongside members of the APM State Executive and other party leaders.
Also in attendance were Local Government Chairmen across the Greater Ibadan City, including Hon. Sherif Aderemi Adeojo of Ido Local Government; Dr. Temitope Kolapo Glorious of Ona Ara Local Government; Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen Morenikeji of Lagelu Local Government; Hon. Wole Akinleye of Akinyele Local Government; Hon. Akeem Akinwale Olatunji of Oluyole Local Government; and Hon. Sikiru Sanda of Egbeda Local Government.
Other notable attendees included Dr. Nureni Adeniran, Director-General of the Presidential and Governorship Campaign, alongside other political leaders, government representatives and grassroots stakeholders.
Stakeholders Hold Strategic Meeting After Commissioning
Following the commissioning, a stakeholder meeting was held at the newly inaugurated Multi-Purpose Hall, bringing together government representatives, APM leaders, political stakeholders and Local Government Chairmen from across the Greater Ibadan City.
The meeting provided an opportunity for interaction, engagement and deliberations on issues relating to the party, grassroots mobilisation and the political process.
The gathering further underscored the importance of collaboration among political leaders and local government administrators in advancing development and strengthening grassroots engagement.
Facility Expected to Boost Ona Ara’s Internally Generated Revenue
Beyond providing a modern venue for marriage ceremonies, social events and official programmes, the Engr. Seyi Makinde Marriage Registry and Multi-Purpose Hall is expected to contribute significantly to the internally generated revenue of Ona Ara Local Government.
Through daily bookings, facility usage and other approved services, the project is designed to establish a sustainable revenue stream for the council while providing affordable services to residents and members of the public.
For Dr. Temitope Kolapo Glorious, the project represents a strategic investment in public infrastructure with both immediate community benefits and long-term administrative and financial value.
The facility demonstrates how public infrastructure can be developed to serve the needs of residents while also contributing to the financial sustainability of local government administration.
The Chairman once again expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Abiodun Makinde for his leadership and continued support for grassroots development, noting that the achievements recorded at the local government level remain connected to the broader development vision of the Oyo State Government.
The commissioning therefore combined the inauguration of an important public facility with a high-level stakeholder gathering, bringing together government officials, political leaders and grassroots representatives in Ona Ara.
