Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s position on the setback requirements for the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road project, stating that the government will maintain 75 metres on both sides of built-up areas and 500 metres on both sides of underdeveloped areas.
The governor also promised that his administration would pay #6 billion in compensation to affected property owners by the end of October 2026.
Makinde made the remarks while responding to a question on the controversial Circular Road project during a media chat on Fresh FM 105.9 in Ibadan. The programme was anchored by veteran journalist, Mayor Isaac Brown.
The governor’s statement reiterates his administration’s position on the proposed setback distances along the road corridor, an issue of concern to residents and property owners whose interests may be affected by the project.

According to the governor, the government intends to retain the stipulated distances while proceeding with plans to compensate those affected by the project.
The promised ₦6 billion compensation, if paid within the stated timeframe, is expected to be a significant development for property owners awaiting financial redress over properties affected by the road project.
The Circular Road project remains an important infrastructure development in Oyo State, with its implementation attracting public attention, particularly over land acquisition, setback requirements and compensation for affected residents.
Note: the specific payment schedule, the number of beneficiaries and the criteria for disbursement were not provided in the account of the interview.
