As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, a prominent member of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ido Local Government, Asiwaju Olatilewa Oladimeji Ayinla, has called for a fundamental reset of the Nigerian state to place the country on a sustainable path to development and prosperity.
In a goodwill message issued on Thursday to commemorate the anniversary, Asiwaju Ayinla congratulated the people of Ido Local Government, Oyo State, and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, while reflecting on the nation’s developmental journey since independence.
He drew attention to the contrasting developmental trajectories of Nigeria and China, noting that both countries mark significant national milestones on October 1, with Nigeria attaining independence in 1960 and the People’s Republic of China established in 1949.
According to him, the comparison should encourage Nigerians to critically examine the structures, policies and institutional practices that have shaped the country’s development over the decades.

Ayinla stressed the need for a fundamental reset that would strengthen institutions, promote accountability, encourage economic productivity, improve infrastructure and create greater opportunities for citizens.
He said Nigeria possesses enormous human and natural resources capable of supporting sustainable development, but noted that these potentials must be matched with purposeful leadership, effective institutions and a long-term national development vision.
The APM chieftain urged Nigerians, particularly residents of Oyo State and Ido Local Government, to use the Independence anniversary as an opportunity to renew their commitment to nation-building, unity, peace and collective responsibility.
He also called on political leaders, professionals, business owners, youths and other stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the process of building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, Asiwaju Ayinla said the occasion should not only be about celebrating the country’s past, but also about confronting present challenges and laying a stronger foundation for future generations.
