The Oyo South Senatorial Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and member representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Stanley Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, has pledged a donation of ₦50 million to support the forthcoming University of Ibadan Students’ Legislative Summit.

The lawmaker announced on Wednesday while receiving members of the Legislative Arm of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union and representatives of the Oyo State Youth Parliament during a courtesy visit to his residence in Ibadan.

The summit, scheduled for September 2026 at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre, is themed in honour of Hon. Odidiomo as the 10th inductee into the Students’ Legislative Summit series. The event is expected to feature notable lawmakers and other distinguished speakers in collaboration with the Oyo State Youth Parliament.

Speaking during the visit, Odidiomo expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve the people of Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West in the House of Representatives and for earning the confidence of his party as its candidate for the Oyo South Senatorial District.

He described the recognition by the students as a great honour and a challenge to continue rendering selfless service, particularly in promoting youth development and leadership.

Addressing the students, the federal lawmaker encouraged them to remain focused on academic excellence, leadership and nation-building, stressing that they represent the future of Nigeria.

“I see future doctors, lawyers, legislators, governors and presidents among you. The future of our country depends on how prepared you are today. Therefore, continue to develop yourselves academically, morally and intellectually,” he said.

Odidiomo also urged the students to embrace religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, noting that politics should never be used as a tool to divide people along religious or ethnic lines.

He assured the students that his relationship with them would not end with the summit, promising sustained mentorship, guidance and opportunities that would help shape their careers and leadership aspirations.

The lawmaker further encouraged the students to maintain strong relationships with their parents and guardians while remaining proactive in pursuing their dreams and contributing positively to society.

Announcing his ₦50 million support for the summit, Odidiomo said the intervention would ensure the successful organisation of the programme and provide participants with valuable legislative exposure and leadership development opportunities.

He added that the future of Nigeria belongs to young people, urging them to take active interest in governance and public service. He particularly encouraged more young women to aspire to elective and appointive positions, noting that increased female participation would strengthen democratic governance and national development.

Earlier, the Speaker of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Oludele John, said the summit was organised to honour Hon. Odidiomo in recognition of his outstanding legislative performance and contributions to youth and educational development.

He commended the lawmaker for his commitment to quality representation through the sponsorship of bills, motions and interventions, including initiatives aimed at strengthening cybersecurity and national development.

According to the Speaker, the Students’ Legislative Summit serves as a platform to expose students to legislative processes, celebrate exemplary public office holders and inspire future leaders through meaningful engagement with experienced policymakers.

He expressed appreciation to Hon. Odidiomo for accepting the honour and for his generous support towards the success of the summit.
