The Oyo State chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has unveiled a comprehensive seven-day programme of activities to commemorate its 40th anniversary, with events designed to promote faith, youth development, humanitarian service, environmental sustainability and community engagement across the state.

The anniversary celebration, scheduled to hold from July 6 to July 12, 2026, will culminate in a grand finale at the Prof. Thomas Oritsejolomi Hall, Conference Centre, the University of Ibadan.

According to a statement jointly signed by the State Amirah of FOMWAN, Dr. Mrs. Lateefat Olasumbo Dairo, and the Chairman of the 40th Anniversary Committee, Alhaja Surura Oyero, the week-long celebration is aimed at appreciating Allah for four decades of impactful service while reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to the spiritual, educational and socio-economic development of Muslim women and the wider society.

The celebration will commence on Monday, July 6, with a statewide rally involving members of the Central Planning Committee and the Ibadan Zone.

The rally will begin from the FOMWAN Orphanage between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., while all Local Government Area branches across the state have been directed to organise similar rallies simultaneously.

The event, scheduled to hold at the FOMWAN Secretariat, Akobo, Ibadan, will focus on the theme, “Security Challenges and Youth Development: Building Resilience, Responsibility and Hope.”

A retired Professor of Guidance and Counselling at the University of Ibadan, Prof. Ayo Ahmed, will deliver the keynote address, while Prof. Mrs. Taiwo Lasisi will speak on “Fear, Trauma and Iman: Balancing Tawakkul with Action,” and Prof. Mrs. Sherifat Akorede will present a paper on “From Fear to Responsibility.”

The third day of the celebration, Wednesday, July 8, has been dedicated to environmental sanitation exercises in all the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State as part of the association’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health.

Humanitarian activities will take centre stage on Thursday, July 9, with all FOMWAN branches expected to carry out humanitarian services within their respective communities.

On Friday, July 10, members will converge at the FOMWAN Secretariat for a special Jumu’ah gathering at 1:00 p.m., while all local branches will simultaneously observe similar prayer sessions.

Activities on Saturday, July 11, will include the final rounds of essay, Qur’an and quiz competitions, alongside a healthcare awareness campaign to be flagged off by the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Public Health Care Board at the FOMWAN Secretariat.

Dr. Dairo and Alhaja Oyero called on members of FOMWAN, stakeholders, Islamic organisations, development partners and the general public to participate actively in the anniversary celebration, describing the milestone as a testament to the association’s four decades of unwavering commitment to Islamic values, humanitarian service, education, family development and community empowerment in Oyo State.
