The Yorubaland Council for Islamic Preachers (YLCIP) has officially appointed the Okanlomo Oodua and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, as the Grand Patron of the Council in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth of Islam, humanitarian service, and community development across Yorubaland and beyond.

The appointment was conveyed in an official letter dated 1st July, 2026, signed by the National Amir, Shaykh Taofeek Akewugbagold, and the National Secretary, Amir Akingbade Kazeem Ayodele.

According to the Council, the honour is in appreciation of Chief Sanusi’s unwavering commitment to promoting Islam, his remarkable humanitarian interventions, and his continuous support for initiatives that positively impact lives within and outside Nigeria.

The Council noted that the recognition aligns with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an, quoting Qur’an 55:60, “And what is the reward of goodness but goodness?” It further disclosed its intention to bestow an Islamic chieftaincy title on Chief Sanusi at a later date, requesting him to suggest two preferred Islamic titles from which one would be endorsed by the Council.

The delegation of the Yorubaland Council for Islamic Preachers was warmly received at Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Ibadan, by the General Manager, Mr. Ridwan Akinola, who represented Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi.

Following the reception, the delegation embarked on a guided tour of the world-class facilities at Ilaji Resort, where they commended the enormous investments of Chief Sanusi in hospitality, sports development, youth empowerment, and economic growth.

As part of the visit, the Islamic scholars held a special prayer session for Okanlomo Oodua and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, praying for Allah’s continued guidance, protection, long life, greater wisdom, and increased prosperity over him and all his investments across Nigeria and around the world.

The prayer session was broadcast live on Ilaji 91.9 FM during a special programme anchored by Comrade Segun Ogungbayi and Mogaji Alawode Rahmon, allowing listeners across the region to participate in the prayers.

Beyond the appointment, the Council disclosed plans to confer an Islamic chieftaincy title on the community leader.

It said its National Amir had directed that the recipient be invited to suggest two Islamic titles from which one would be selected for formal conferment.

“Furthermore, apart from this appointment, we also intend to confer upon you an Islamic chieftaincy title. We would be pleased if you could kindly suggest two Islamic titles of your choice, from which one will be selected and officially conferred upon you, In Shaa Allah,” the Council stated.

The organisation also expressed confidence that Sanusi would accept the appointment and prayed for Allah’s continued guidance, protection and blessings upon him.

The National Amir, Shaykh Taofeek Akewugbagold, led the delegation alongside Islamic leaders from the six South-West states, including Sheikh AbdulRafiu Oloko (Oyo State), Sheikh Abdullahi Akanni (Osun State), Professor Aonullahi Ahmad Rufai (Ekiti State), Sheikh Salahudeen Imolesin (Ogun State), Sheikh Abdulwaheed Lawal (Lagos State), and Alhaji AbdulRafiu Ajibode Lagbaji (Ondo State).

Other members of the delegation included Sheikh Olore, National Secretary; Sheikh Qazeem AbuAwero, Spokesman; Sheikh Olaosebikan (Ajanasi Agba Ogbomosho), Publicity Secretary; Sheikh Katayiyanjue Igboho, and several other distinguished Islamic scholars.
