Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande, has congratulated Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on the seventh anniversary of his administration, saying the state has witnessed significant progress under his leadership.

In a congratulatory message issued to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday, Akande described the last seven years as “seven years of purposeful, inclusive and results-driven governance” that have touched lives across Oyo State. He noted that since assuming office on May 29, 2019, Governor Makinde has pursued policies anchored on data, accountability and direct impact on citizens.
“Oyo Has Moved Forward,” Akande declared. “On behalf of the government and good people of Ibadan South West Local Government, I heartily congratulate His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, on this remarkable milestone. The evidence of good governance is visible in our roads, schools, hospitals and in the security of lives and property.”

The council chairman commended the administration for the reconstruction and dualisation of major road networks which, he said, have eased intra-city and inter-city movement and boosted economic activities. He added that the rehabilitation and upgrading of Primary Healthcare Centres across the 33 local government areas have improved access to quality healthcare at the grassroots, bringing relief to mothers, children and the elderly who previously had to travel long distances for treatment.

Akande also praised the governor’s investment in education through renovation of public schools, recruitment of teachers and prioritization of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET. According to him, the focus on skills acquisition shows a long-term plan to equip Oyo youths for self-reliance and employment in a changing economy. “Certificates alone cannot guarantee the future anymore. By investing in TVET and vocational training, Governor Makinde is preparing our youths to be job creators, not just job seekers,” he stated.

On security, the Ibadan SW chairman applauded sustained funding and political will for Operation Burst and the Amotekun Corps, saying the administration’s approach has helped stabilize the state and created a conducive environment for business and investment. He stressed that peace and security remain the foundation for any meaningful development and pledged that Ibadan South West would continue to support state security structures.

While celebrating the milestones, Akande pledged that his administration at the local government level would continue to align with the governor’s Omituntun 2.0 agenda to ensure that state policies translate into tangible benefits for residents at the ward level. He promised to prioritize rehabilitation of inner roads and drainage, improvement of primary healthcare facilities, sanitation and upgrade of markets, as well as youth empowerment through skills acquisition.

He concluded with prayers for the governor’s continued wisdom and strength to complete his tenure successfully. “May God grant you more grace to finish strong. Oyo State is truly moving forward under your leadership,” Akande prayed.
