24 former Oyo North Local Government Chairmen endorse Prof Akande for Senatorial seat

The chances of Professor Adeolu Akande in the race for Oyo North Senatorial District ticket of the All Progressives Congress(APC) was boosted at the weekend as 24 former local government chairmen in the district endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the ticket.

In a statement signed by the 24 former chairmen which cut across the regimes of Alhaji Lamidi Adesina and Senator Abiola Ajimobi,the Chairmen noted that Professor Akande is eminently qualified for the APC ticket and should be presented by the party for the election.

The former chairmen who are among a total of about 31 surviving former chairmen in the district noted that as grassroots men who had led the Progressives at elections since 1999,they are confident that the candidature of Prof Akande is the surest bet for the party in the 2027 senatorial election.

They noted that by virtue of his academic qualifications,public service experience and contributions to the growth and progress of the APC, Professor Akande is the best in the pack of aspirants to fly the flag of the APC.

According to the. statement by the former chairmen, ‘we are desirous of the victory of the APC in the 2027 elections, not only the senatorial election but also presidential, governorship, House of Representatives and House of Assemnly elections. To be successful at these elections,we need a senatorial candidate that is accepted by the people in all the nooks and crannies of the senatorial district. There is no senatorial aspirant that matches Prof Akande in this respect and that is why we concluded that he is the best to fly the flag of the party in the election

‘ The senatorial seat is the highest office that would come to Oyo North Senatorial District in the 2027. The candidate will therefore be the flagship of the party in all elections in the district in 20027 We cannot afford to present a candidate that will be a weak link in the entire APC team in Oyo State for the election.We have therefore considered all aspirants and decided that the best person to be the party’s flag bearer is Prof Akande, a Professor of Political Science,a lawyer who have had a distinguished experience at the federal and state levels

‘We are resolved to mobilise our extensive machinery in all the 13 local government areas of the district to support him in the primaries of the APC’, the statement concluded.
