The Oyo Lawmaker representing Akinyele Constituency 1 at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiola Monsuru Olalekan, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal issues within the party and the need to advance his political interest amid ongoing political realignments.


The resignation was conveyed through a letter dated May 2nd, 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman, Ward 6, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Hon. Abiola Monsuru Olalekan, who currently serves as the Chairman, House Committee on Establishments, Training and Poverty Alleviation in the Oyo State Legislature, stated in the letter that his decision followed the lingering internal crisis within the party.

He also requested that his personal information, including his name, National Identification Number (NIN), phone number and email address, be removed from the PDP register and all electronic party platforms to enable him move forward with his political aspirations.


The lawmaker, while announcing his departure from the party, appreciated the PDP for the opportunities and experiences he gained during his time as a member. He noted that he remains grateful for everything he had been able to achieve through the platform and maintained a respectful tone throughout the resignation message addressed to the party leadership at the ward level.


Hon.Abiola Monsur Olalekan’s resignation has continued to attract attention within political circles in Akinyele Local Government and Oyo State generally, as observers await his next political move.


With political consultations and alignments gradually taking shape ahead of future political activities in the state, many stakeholders believe his decision may mark the beginning of a new phase in his political journey.
