Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a former Ijebu Ode Local Government chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and renowned philanthropist, Asiwaju Oladapo Odumosu, has aligned with the Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

The move is widely seen as a major boost to the APC’s chances in Ogun East, with political observers predicting a strong showing for the party in the senatorial district come 2027.
Asiwaju Odumosu, founder of the Asiwaju Odumosu Foundation, is a grassroots politician with a deep and enduring presence across Ijebu Central Federal Constituency. He is widely respected for his consistent philanthropic efforts and maintains a strong network of grassroots mobilisers across the Ijebu axis, making his defection a significant political development.

This latest alignment comes on the heels of recent defections from the PDP, including the former State Youth Leader, Hon. Oyejide Sunkanmi, and six lawmakers elected on the party’s platform, who resigned their membership and joined the APC.

With these developments, Ogun East is increasingly becoming a stronghold for Senator Adeola, as key figures within the opposition continue to rally behind the APC consensus candidate.
