As the race toward the 2027 general elections gradually gathers momentum, political conversations across Ibadan NorthWest and Ibadan SouthWest Federal Constituency are beginning to take shape.

Among the emerging voices and familiar faces, one name continues to resonate with increasing clarity Dr. Stephen Akin Fagbemi.

For many party faithful and grassroots stakeholders, he is not just another aspirant; he is steadily becoming “the last man standing.”

Dr. Fagbemi’s political journey is deeply rooted in loyalty, consistency, and service. A committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his alignment with the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde is neither recent nor opportunistic.

He has, over the years, proven himself as a dependable ally one who understands the philosophy of governance anchored on people-centered development and pragmatic leadership.

His track record in public service further strengthens his credentials. As the immediate past Chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYTRMA), Fagbemi demonstrated administrative competence and a results-driven approach to public safety and traffic coordination.

In his current role as Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board (OYHMB), he continues to contribute meaningfully to strengthening the state’s healthcare delivery system an area critical to human development.

However, beyond official titles and appointments lies the core of his political appeal his connection to the grassroots. In Ibadan NorthWest Local Government especially, Fagbemi is widely regarded as a beloved stakeholder whose influence transcends political cycles.

His consistent engagement with party structures, unwavering support for PDP activities, and personal investment in sustaining the party’s grassroots machinery have not gone unnoticed.

At a time when political loyalty is often fluid and driven by convenience, Fagbemi stands out as a diehard party man. His commitment is not just rhetorical; it is practical and enduring.

He has played a quiet but impactful role in funding and stabilizing party structures, ensuring that the PDP remains vibrant and competitive at the ward and local government levels.

Critics may argue that political contests are never decided by loyalty alone and they are right. Yet, in a constituency where trust, familiarity, and proven commitment carry significant weight, Fagbemi’s profile positions him uniquely. He represents continuity, stability, and a deep understanding of the political terrain.

As 2027 approaches, the question for PDP stakeholders and the electorate alike will not only be about who can win, but who can sustain the party’s legacy while delivering effective representation. In that conversation, Dr. Stephen Akin Fagbemi’s name is not just relevant it is compelling.

Whether he ultimately secures the party’s ticket remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: in the unfolding political narrative of Ibadan NorthWest/SouthWest, Akin Fagbemi is not just in the race he is shaping it.
