As Oyo State approaches the next phase of its political journey, it is crucial to consider the leadership structure of Omituntun 3.0 in a manner that ensures continuity, inclusiveness, and strategic growth. After eight years of commendable administration under Engr. Seyi Makinde, the time has come to thoughtfully select a leader who can maintain the development trajectory while promoting political balance in the state. In this regard, a Muslim candidate with proven intelligence, administrative competence, and political acceptance deserves serious consideration.

Firstly, selecting a Muslim candidate represents a necessary step toward political equity and religious inclusiveness. After the eight years of Christian leadership this writer strongly believe that introducing a Muslim leader at the helm of Omituntun 3.0 will reinforce the sense of fairness and balance among Oyo State citizens. Such a decision will not only resonate positively with the Muslim population but will also be appreciated by all communities as a demonstration of deliberate inclusivity in governance.

Secondly, the choice of a Muslim candidate should be grounded in merit and capability. Beyond religious identity, the candidate must possess the intellectual acumen, political foresight, and leadership experience necessary to carry forward the developmental agenda of Governor Makinde.

Competence remains the most critical factor to ensure that Omituntun 3.0 does not merely inherit achievements but builds on them with innovative policies and strategic governance.

Furthermore, the political landscape suggests the need for a leader capable of navigating challenges, especially if Omituntun 3.0 contemplates contesting under a different party platform in 2027.

A candidate who enjoys broad acceptance across both Muslim and Christian communities, and who can command respect in the state’s Muslim-dominated zones, will be better positioned to rally the necessary support and mitigate any partisan disadvantages. Areas such as Ibadan, Iseyin and Oyo town which have historically been staunch supporters of Omituntun 1 and 2, exemplify the importance of engaging Muslim communities in ensuring sustained political success.

Importantly, the selection of a Muslim candidate also simplifies the process for the outgoing governor to influence the installation of a successor. Historical meeting and arrangements with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the state’s Muslim leaders days to the last gubernatorial election in the State must be remembered and resolutions of that meeting should also be considered to demonstrate the value of a carefully balanced religious and political approach.

By presenting a candidate who can command respect across these constituencies, the governor ensures continuity while honoring the implicit agreements that have maintained harmony and political stability.

In conclusion, Oyo State stands at a pivotal moment. Choosing a Muslim candidate with proven competence, political maturity, and wide acceptance is not merely a symbolic gesture; it is a strategic move to sustain development, reinforce political balance, and consolidate Omituntun’s achievements. With the involvement and support of key Muslim-dominated zones like Iseyin, such a candidate will be well-placed to continue the legacy of Omituntun while fostering inclusiveness and sustainable growth for all Oyo State residents.
