…As Hospital Board Chairman, peace advocate reaffirmed in role to strengthen justice and unity in Oyo State
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has conferred an appointment on the Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, in recognition of his collaboration with the state government in promoting peace and justice within society.
The appointment underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders who play vital roles in fostering harmony, fairness, and sustainable development across Oyo State.
Dr. Fagbemi, who also serves as the Mogaji of Agunleyinju Compound, Alekuso, Beere, Ibadan, was acknowledged not only for his contributions to the health sector but also for his traditional leadership role within his community.
As Mogaji, he is regarded as a custodian of culture and a grassroots leader committed to peaceful coexistence and community development.
Governor Makinde commended Dr. Fagbemi for his dedication to public service, noting that his dual responsibilities as a government appointee and traditional leader position him strategically to support initiatives aimed at promoting justice and social stability in the state.
Reacting to the appointment, Dr. Akin Fagbemi expressed profound appreciation to Governor Makinde for the confidence reposed in him. He described the recognition as a call to higher service.
“I am deeply honoured by this appointment and grateful to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for finding me worthy of this responsibility. This recognition strengthens my resolve to continue working for peace, justice, and equitable development in Oyo State,” he said.
Dr. Fagbemi further stated that his role as Mogaji of Agunleyinju Compound has prepared him to mediate, foster unity, and uphold traditional values that promote harmony within society.
“As a traditional leader and public servant, I remain committed to supporting government initiatives that will enhance peaceful coexistence and ensure justice for all citizens,” he added.

Dr. Akin Fagbemi was honoured with the World Icon of Peace Award in December 2024 by the World Institute of Peace, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
In addition, he was inducted as a Fellow of the prestigious Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), a distinguished professional body dedicated to the promotion of mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
His induction into the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) further underscores his commitment to fostering dialogue, reconciliation, and sustainable peace within society.
