The National Market Leader and a critical stakeholder in Oyo State, Princess Afolashade Abeo Nurudeen, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Alhaja Chief Mrs Iyadunni Lawal, former Chairman of the Oyo State Market Leaders Council and President of Food Canteen Owners Association, who died on Monday, 9th February 2026.

In an emotional tribute, Princess Nurudeen described the late market icon, fondly known as Iya Daadaa, as a rare leader whose life was defined by service, humility, and courage. She noted that Alhaja Lawal’s impact on market administration and women leadership across Oyo State remains indelible.

“Adieu, great leader of our time. May Almighty Allah be pleased with your soul, Iya Daadaa,” Princess Nurudeen said, adding that the late leader lived a fulfilled life dedicated to unity and progress within the market system. “She made all possible, after Almighty God ordained it. Mama, you are not forgotten easily.”

Princess Nurudeen further highlighted the personal bond she shared with the late Alhaja Lawal, recalling her as a mother-figure who led with sincerity and a willingness to correct mistakes for the greater good. “Iya Daadaa was always ready to make amends where she made mistakes. I love you still, Mama,” she stated.

She also acknowledged Alhaja Lawal’s historic role in her own leadership journey, noting that the late former chairman presided over and supported her installation and public announcement as Iyaloja General of Oyo State during her tenure as Chairman of the Oyo State Market Leaders Council.

According to Princess Nurudeen, Alhaja Chief Mrs Iyadunni Lawal’s legacy of fairness, inclusiveness, and steadfast leadership will continue to guide market leaders and stakeholders across the state. She prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the departed and strength for the family, associates, and the entire market community to bear the irreparable loss.

The passing of Iya Daadaa marks the end of an era in Oyo State’s market leadership, but her values and contributions, Princess Nurudeen affirmed, will live on for generations to come.
