In a significant boost to road safety, infrastructure management, and economic regulation, the Oyo State Government has officially handed over the newly installed weighbridge system at the Ogbomoso end of the Adebayo Alao-Akala Memorial Highway to the Ogbomoso North Local Government.

The formal handover ceremony took place on Friday, 6th February 2026, with the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Hon. Saheed Mogbonjubola Jagaban, representing the Oyo State Government.
The weighbridge system was handed over to the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Hon. George Gbadegesin Ogunlade, following the successful completion, installation, and testing of the facility.

Prior to the handover, the weighbridge system underwent comprehensive testing in the presence of key stakeholders, including government officials and relevant authorities. The tests confirmed that the system is fully functional, providing accurate, reliable, and efficient weight measurement for heavy-duty vehicles plying the highway. This development is expected to play a critical role in protecting road infrastructure, reducing excessive axle load damage, and enhancing overall road safety.

An inventory of all installed facilities was formally submitted by the contractor, further confirming the completeness of the project. With the handover concluded, responsibility for the operation and routine maintenance of the weighbridge system now rests with the Ogbomoso North Local Government, effective immediately.
Speaking at the event, Hon. George Gbadegesin Ogunlade expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his visionary leadership and commitment to infrastructural development across Oyo State. He also commended the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Hon. Saheed Mogbonjubola Jagaban, for his dedication and effective supervision in ensuring the successful execution of the project.

According to Hon. George, the installation of the weighbridge system aligns with the state government’s broader agenda of sustainable development, improved transportation management, and protection of public assets.

He assured residents and stakeholders that the local government would ensure proper utilization and maintenance of the facility for the benefit of the people and the state at large.
