The executive chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has flagged off the commencement of free Computer Based Test (CBT) training for all public school students in SS3 getting ready for the 2026 West African Examination Council (WATCH).

This comes as a fulfillment of his electoral promise to the people of Oluyole Local Government in terms of commitment to quality education and enhanced academic learning skill through digital literacy for grassroots residents in his domain.

More than 750 students from public secondary schools across the council area are expected to take part in the five-day exercise.

The training, which began on Monday, 8 December, holds daily at Methodist High School, Toll Gate, where students file into the hall with a mix of curiosity and determination.

With WAEC set to fully adopt CBT from next year, the initiative according to the Council boss, offers many of the young students their first structured exposure to the format.

Olatunji described the programme as a practical step toward strengthening digital literacy at the grassroots.

He noted that students cannot be left behind at a time when examinations, workplaces and daily life continue to lean heavily on technology.

The sessions, he said, are crafted to build confidence and ease the anxiety that often comes with unfamiliar platforms during such examination.

In his words: “The move fits into Governor Seyi Makinde’s overall drive to expand access to quality education and modern learning tools across Oyo State.

“We in Oluyole LG, have consistently aligned our goal for quality education with that vision, pushing for initiatives that improve academic outcomes and give public school students a fairer chance.

Schools that joined the flag off on the opening day include Olunde Community Secondary School, Jogbin; Ayegun Community Grammar School, Ayegun; Prospect High School, Abanla; Faruku Community Grammar School, Soka; and the host school, Methodist High School, Toll Gate.

“The training runs through Friday, with sessions commencing at 9 am daily. By the end of the week, we hope that every participating student will walk away with not just technical skills, but a sense of readiness as they approach a new era of examinations starting from 2026,” Olatunji added.

Some of the teachers and students who participated in the flag off expressed excitement at the opportunity. They showered praises on the Council chairman for always prioritizing the welfare of his people without discrimination against the less privileged.

They assured that the opportunity will be well utilized to attain maximum possible outcome that will in turn guarantee success in their WAEC examination come 2026.
