The Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, His Eminence Alhaji (Dr.) Dawud Makanjuola Akinola (De-Damak), has expressed sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Faysol Oluwakemi, the Aare Musulumi acknowledged former President Buhari’s prominent role in Nigeria’s political history. From his service as military head of state in the 1980s to his two-term democratic presidency from 2015 to 2023, Buhari’s leadership spanned critical periods in the nation’s development.

The statement also highlighted Buhari’s commitment to national service and his efforts toward issues including governance, security, and anti-corruption.

The Aare Musulumi extended condolences to the family of the late former president, the federal government government and people of Katsina State, and the wider Nigerian Muslim community.

Amid this period of national mourning of the formal president, the Aare Musulumi called on all Nigerians to rise above differences and work earnestly toward unity, peace, and collective progress.

He emphasized that true national development is only possible when Nigerians embrace mutual respect, understanding, and solidarity across ethnic, religious, and political divides.

Signed:
Faysol Oluwakemi.
