Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared his readiness to support any of his appointees who aspire to run for political office in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, as long as they demonstrate the capacity and competence to lead effectively.
The governor made this known on Monday, during the 2025 Mid-Term Leadership Retreat organized by the Oyo State Government at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, according to a report by Egalitarian Voice.
Governor Makinde encouraged political ambition among members of his cabinet, stating clearly that his support would be based on merit and capacity, not just loyalty.
“There is nothing stopping anyone from my cabinet from contesting in the next general election. If you have the capacity for whatever position you want to contest for, you will have my support. I will only not support anyone who lacks the capacity to govern,” the governor stated.
The remarks signal Governor Makinde’s commitment to a leadership culture rooted in performance, as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
