URGENT NEED FOR THE EXECUTIVE ARM OF GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE RELIEF FOR VICTIMS OF THE RAINSTORM OF TUESDAY, 4TH MARCH, 2025 IN OGO-OLUWA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND RECONSTRUCT DAMAGED PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTUREHon.

A.A Ogundare (Ogo-oluwa/Surulere)The House:Notes with deep concern that on Tuesday, 4th March 2025, a devastating rainstorm struck Ogo-Oluwa Local Government, causing widespread destruction to public infrastructure, private properties, and livelihoods.

Communities severely affected by the storm include Community High School Idi-Araba, Community High School Ayede, Alawusa Primary School Oke-Oba, Opete Township, Idi-Araba Township, Odo-Ifo, Elega Village, and Ayede Township. The violent storm led to the destruction of school buildings, homes, businesses, and farmlands, leaving many families struggling to recover from the sudden loss of shelter and sources of income.

Further notes that the damage to Community High School Idi-Araba, Community High School Ayede, and Alawusa Primary School Oke-Oba has forced students out of school, disrupting academic activities and causing hardship for both learners and teachers.

In the absence of urgent intervention, education in these affected areas may suffer prolonged setbacks. Additionally, local businesses and market traders have been significantly impacted, as shops, stalls, and stored goods were destroyed in the storm, aggravating the financial burden on affected families.

Aware that natural disasters such as rainstorms are beyond human control, hence proactive measures must be taken to mitigate their impact and provide relief for affected victims.

It is important to note that Oyo state at various times have developed disaster response mechanisms, including emergency relief programs for community recovery and support for victims unforeseen events. Such support is therefore required to provide emergency assistance to the people of Ogooluwa Local Government Areas.

Further aware that the government has a duty to protect its citizens and ensure that necessary measures are put in place to aid communities affected by disasters.

By prioritizing emergency response and long-term planning, Oyo State can reduce the impact of future disasters and support affected communities in their recovery. Observes that beyond short-term relief, efforts should be made to reinforce disaster preparedness mechanisms, such as improved drainage systems, community awareness programs, and structural reinforcements in disaster-prone areas, to prevent similar occurrences in the future.Resolves to:Commend His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Oyo State residents 2.

Urge the Executive Arm of Government through the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (OYSEMA) and the Chairman Ogooluwa Local Government to:i. conduct an immediate assessment of the affected areas to determine the full extent of damage and necessary relief measures.ii.

provide emergency relief materials, including food, bedding, and temporary shelter, for displaced families.iii. offer financial and material assistance to affected traders, artisans, and farmers to help them rebuild their businesses and means of livelihood.3.

urge the Executive Arm of Government through Ministry of Education Science and Technology and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with State Emergency Management Authority (FSEMA) to facilitate the urgent reconstruction of school buildings in Community High School Idi-Araba, Community High School Ayede, and Alawusa Primary School Oke-Oba, ensuring that students can resume learning without further delay.
