Campaign posters and materials promoting Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the 2027 Lagos governorship election have surfaced online, sparking widespread reactions across political circles.

The development was revealed by one of his supporters, “SomoriEko,” who shared images of the campaign materials on social media, further fueling speculation about his gubernatorial ambition.

While Seyi Tinubu has not publicly declared his intention to run, some factions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly positioning him as a potential successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

His rumored candidacy has already attracted endorsements from various interest groups and political stakeholders, making him a strong contender in the emerging political landscape of Lagos State.

Potential Contenders for the Lagos Governorship Race

Beyond Seyi Tinubu, several other high-profile political figures are being mentioned as possible candidates for the 2027 Lagos governorship race. These include:

Femi Gbajabiamila – Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to President Tinubu.

Muri Okunola – Principal Secretary to President Tinubu, a known technocrat in Lagos State governance, and a former Head of Service in Lagos State.

Akinwunmi Ambode – Former Governor of Lagos State, who governed from 2015 to 2019 before being denied a second term by the APC leadership.

Tokunbo Abiru – Senator representing Lagos East, a banker-turned-politician with growing influence in Lagos politics.

Political Implications and Reactions:

The emergence of Seyi Tinubu’s campaign materials has ignited discussions about political succession in Lagos, a state that has remained under APC control since 1999.

Some political analysts believe his candidacy could deepen the internal power struggle within the APC, especially considering the ambitions of other strong contenders.

Critics argue that the move may be seen as a continuation of the Tinubu political dynasty, raising concerns over political nepotism.

However, supporters maintain that Seyi Tinubu has built an impressive profile through his business ventures and political engagements, making him a viable candidate for leadership.

As the 2027 elections approach, Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor developments, track political alignments, and provide in-depth analysis on the evolving race for Lagos State’s top seat.
