The PDP Governors’ Forum convened its first monthly meeting of 2025 today, Friday, January 31, at the Government House, Asaba, Delta State. Where the Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde was duly represented by his deputy Barrister Abdulraheem adebayo Lawal. Following extensive deliberations, the Forum issued the following communiqué:
1. State and National Review: The Forum assessed the performance of PDP-led states and reviewed national developments at the close of 2024. Acknowledging the significant socio-economic, security, and infrastructure challenges confronting Nigeria, the Forum commended PDP governors for implementing policies that alleviated hardships and laid a foundation for sustainable development.
2. Call for Economic Policy Reforms: The Forum expressed deep concern over the Federal Government’s macroeconomic policies, which have inflicted hardship on Nigerians. It urged the government to revisit or reform these policies to ease the suffering of citizens, as meaningful state-level progress remains hindered by these economic challenges.
3. Party Affairs and National Secretary Issue: The Forum welcomed efforts to resolve the crisis concerning the National Secretary position within the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and reaffirmed its support for the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the matter. It further urged the NWC to implement the court’s decision effectively.
4. Rescheduling of NEC Meeting: After reviewing the legal requirements for convening the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the Forum advised the NWC to reschedule it for March 13, 2025.
5. Security and National Stability: While commending the Armed Forces and security agencies for their ongoing efforts in protecting the nation, the Forum raised concerns over the resurgence of non-state actors engaged in violent activities. It called for the strengthening of Nigeria’s security architecture to combat emerging threats effectively.
6. Commendation to Delta State: The Forum expressed appreciation to the Host Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Government, and the people of Delta State for their hospitality. It also commended the governor for his administration’s progress in infrastructure development, environmental restoration, people empowerment, and security improvements.
7. Assurance to Nigerians: The Forum urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite prevailing economic hardships, assuring them of the PDP’s commitment to restoring the country to the pre-2015 era—a period marked by manageable living costs, enhanced security, national unity, and economic prosperity.
The meeting was presided over by His Excellency, Sen. Bala A. Mohammed CON, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
