The Screening Committee of the Egbeda Local Government has released a critical report following its assessment of nominations for Supervisors and Special Advisers.

This review, conducted on January 3, 2025, was prompted by a directive from the Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, referencing the need for appointments to be approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.

Chaired by Hon. Abdulahi Alaba, with Hon. Olaoye Adijat serving as Secretary and Hon. Rafiu Ibrahim as a member, the committee scrutinised the nominations to ensure they adhered to the principles of fairness, justice, and equity.

However, the committee identified several significant shortcomings in the nomination process.

The first finding was a lack of balanced representation, as the nominations failed to provide equitable representation of the various wards and interests within Egbeda Local Government. This imbalance raised concerns about adequate stakeholder representation.

Additionally, a formal petition was received from concerned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Egbeda, highlighting grievances regarding the perceived lack of fairness in the nominations.

The petition underscored the discontent among party members about the nomination process. The committee also noted that the nominations did not adequately encompass the diverse interests and needs of the local community, which could potentially lead to political discord and instability.

Furthermore, the committee revealed that many local leaders were not informed about the nominations process, adding that this lack of awareness is seen as a barrier to inclusivity and could foster disharmony within the party.

Given these findings, the Screening Committee has reached the regrettable decision that the nominated individuals are not suitable for appointment as the committee emphasised that its decision was driven by a commitment to ensuring fairness and equity in the representation of the Egbeda Local Government.

The report was signed by Chairman of the Screening Committee; Hon. Alaba Abdullahi of Erunmu Ward 01 who doubles as the Deputy Leader of the Legislative House, the Screening Committee Secretary, Hon. Adijat Olaoye, Councillor representing Kumapayi/Olodo Ward 05 and the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Rafiu Ibrahim Abiodun who is also a screening committee member.
