Atsi Kefas, sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, was reportedly shot during a gunmen attack on her family convoy on Thursday, November 2, 2024, along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. The convoy, which included the governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, was ambushed in the brazen attack.
Reports by Zagazola Makama, a publication focusing on counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region, revealed that the incident occurred when the police escort attached to the convoy opened fire in an attempt to repel the attackers. Tragically, Atsi Kefas was inadvertently struck during the exchange.
Swift action by security forces ensured the rescue of the victims. Troops intervened to secure the scene, and both Jumai and Atsi Kefas were evacuated using an air ambulance. Atsi was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention, though her current condition remains undisclosed.
As part of ongoing investigations, security operatives recovered the attackers’ vehicle, an empty magazine, and passenger luggage left behind at the scene.
This alarming incident underscores the rising insecurity in the region, with many calling for heightened measures to protect citizens and public figures alike. The state government has yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
