The Ojo Local Government Area chapter of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State has suspended the lawmaker representing Ojo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Seyi Sowunmi, for three months. The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the party’s chairman, Oluwanifemi Elegbede, and secretary, Blessing Okafor.
Sowunmi was accused of gross insubordination, failure to attend ward meetings, and non-registration in any Ojo LGA ward, among other allegations. The party leadership said the suspension is in line with the party’s constitution and follows Sowunmi’s refusal to appear before the disciplinary panel despite a 24-hour summon.
The statement outlined the allegations against Sowunmi, including refusal to work with existing party leadership, attempting to remove constituted leadership without following party procedures, and taking the party to court without exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms.
