The Employees of a popular food and beverages company in Ibadan, SUMAL FOOD, have called on the Inspector-General of Police to set-up an investigative panel of enquiry to unravel the killer of their colleague, Olabode Olaniyan.
Olaniyan who was shot dead on Monday during a peaceful protest over poor welfare and non payment of palliatives to cushion the effects of harsh economic situation across the country.
Tempers have reached boiling point as these workers under the employ of SUMAL FOODs Ibadan stand their ground over the death of Olabode Olaniyan in the hand of yet to be identified security agents on Monday.
In a viral video, the deceased was seen been carried by his colleagues while he remained motionless.
Speaking with newsmen, One of the protesters, Sakiru Oyewole lamented on how the management of the company have been poorly treated their staff over the years, adding that the move did not only sparked outrage but death of one of the staff of the company.
Addressing the newsmen, father of the deceased worker, Ramon Olaniyan appealed for government’s intervention for justice to be served over the death of his son, who according to him was the bread-winner of the family.
He further called on the Civil Society groups and well meaning Nigerians to come to his aid over the loss of his son.
The death of Olabode Olaniyan is yet another wake up call on government to put in place a viable mechanism to check cases of injustice, poor welfare and maltreatment purportedly meted out on ordinary Nigerians in search of sustainable means livelihood.
While the Police have kept mum over the matter, management of the food and beverage company have denied knowledge of the whereabouts of their staff who was felled by security agents drafted to disperse the protesting workers on Monday.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filling this report, management of the Food and beverages company were engaging leaders of the protesters, to resolve the impasse.
