The recent reports about cholera outbreak in Nigeria has prompted concerned philanthropist and public health advocate, Dr Akande Kazeem Babatunde, to address the recent Cholera outbreak in parts of Nigeria. Cholera is a highly infectious and potentially life-threatening disease, but with awareness and proper precautions, we can minimize its spread and impact.

The recent outbreak in Nigeria is a cause for concern, and it is essential that we take immediate action to prevent further spread of the disease.

As a community, we must come together to ensure that we are taking the necessary precautions to protect ourselves, our families, and our neighbors.

While giving his opinion on managing the cholera outbreak, Akande said it is crucial that we prioritize access to safe drinking water. This means using only bottled or boiled water for consumption, cooking, and personal hygiene.

We must also ensure that our water sources are properly treated and maintained to prevent contamination. Furthermore, we must avoid consuming undercooked or raw foods, and avoid eating from street vendors or unhygienic environments.

Akande opined that good hygiene practices are also essential in preventing the spread of Cholera.

We must wash our hands frequently with soap and clean water, especially before eating and after using the bathroom. Proper disposal of human waste and maintaining clean surroundings are also critical in preventing the spread of the disease.

As a community, we must also work together to ensure that our environment is clean and hygienic.

This includes proper disposal of waste, maintaining clean streets and public spaces, and ensuring that our schools and healthcare facilities are equipped with proper sanitation facilities.

Akande extended his admonition to students and parents.

He noted the importance of taking extra precautions to ensure that our schools are safe and hygienic.

This includes ensuring proper handwashing facilities and sanitation in schools, encouraging students to report any symptoms to their teachers or school authorities, and parents educating their children on Cholera prevention and monitoring their health closely.

Akande further noted that it is important for communities to partner with volunteer organizations such as Rotary International, JCI, and Lions Club to raise awareness on cholera and promote prevention tips in several communities in Nigeria.

In conclusion, the recent Cholera outbreak in Nigeria is a serious concern that requires immediate attention and action.

By prioritizing access to safe drinking water, practicing good hygiene, and maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, we can minimize the spread of the disease and ensure a healthier Nigeria for all.

Let us work together to contain this outbreak and prioritize public health. By staying informed and taking the necessary precautions, we can stay safe and healthy.
