As the 2027 general election approaches, the people of Ibadan North Constituency I will once again have the opportunity to decide who should represent them at the Oyo State House of Assembly.

With the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) having given its ticket to the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Dr. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide, the question before the electorate is straightforward: who has demonstrated the capacity, commitment and compassion required to continue representing the constituency?

In my considered opinion, Hon. Comforter remains the choice.

This is not simply because she is the incumbent or because she has secured the ticket of the APM. It is because her recent record provides tangible examples of interventions in youth empowerment, education, security, community infrastructure, social welfare and legislative advocacy.

Empowerment Beyond Political Rhetoric

One of the most visible aspects of Hon. Comforter’s representation has been her commitment to economic empowerment.

During her constituency empowerment programme in February 2026, more than 200 trained young entrepreneurs were empowered with start-up grants and vocational tools. Traders affected by a market fire also received financial assistance, with ₦700,000 distributed to affected traders. Food items and gas stoves were equally distributed to vulnerable residents.

These interventions are significant because they focus on helping people become economically productive rather than merely providing temporary political promises.

For young people seeking opportunities and small business owners struggling to remain afloat, access to start-up support and vocational tools can make a meaningful difference.

Education and Investment in the Future

Hon. Comforter has also demonstrated attention to education and the development of young people.

As part of her constituency interventions, she provided free JAMB and NECO registration for 20 outstanding students of Mount Olivet Grammar School, Ashi-Bodija.

Her office has also undertaken a wider range of educational interventions, including the renovation of schools and classrooms, as well as student empowerment programmes. These initiatives demonstrate her continued commitment to improving educational infrastructure and supporting students within the constituency.

But beyond figures and infrastructure, there is another educational intervention that, to me, speaks directly to the heart.

The Four-Year-Old Girl: Representation With a Human Face

Sometimes, the impact of public service cannot be measured only by the number of projects commissioned or the amount of money distributed.

In February 2026, Hon. Comforter adopted a four-year-old girl from her constituency and pledged to sponsor the child’s education for life.

The child, who came from a disadvantaged background, distinguished herself by emerging first in a running race at a community event. Recognising her potential, Hon. Comforter committed herself to supporting the girl’s educational development.

For me, this is more than another constituency intervention.

It demonstrates the human side of representation.

A lawmaker can construct a road, provide a borehole or distribute empowerment grants, but choosing to personally take responsibility for the educational future of a vulnerable child speaks to a different dimension of public service.

It is a reminder that representation is ultimately about people.

Security as a Constituency Priority

Security has also featured prominently in Hon. Comforter’s recent interventions, both within her constituency and through her legislative responsibilities.

She commissioned a newly built Amotekun office at Ashi-Bodija, while other reported interventions included solar lighting aimed at strengthening security and improving access to essential services within the constituency.

eaglessightnews.com also reported her subsequent visit to the Police and Amotekun formations, during which she donated a generator to the Bodija Police Division to support police operations during power outages.

Her concern for security, however, extends beyond the immediate boundaries of her constituency.

Following the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Comforter openly expressed her concern over the incident and called for urgent and stronger measures to protect schools, teachers and children. Her intervention on the floor of the Oyo State House of Assembly reflected her position that the safety of children and education workers must remain a priority.

The incident brought home the reality that insecurity can affect any community, and her response demonstrated her willingness to use her position in the House to speak on security concerns affecting the wider people of Oyo State.

For residents of Ibadan North Constituency I, security is not an abstract political issue. It affects businesses, homes, markets, schools and the freedom of residents to go about their daily activities.

Hon. Comforter’s record from supporting grassroots security infrastructure to speaking out on the protection of pupils and teachers, therefore deserves consideration when assessing her performance as a legislator.

Community Infrastructure That Touches Everyday Life

Representation is also about responding to basic community needs.

Her constituency interventions have reportedly included the construction of boreholes with generating sets at Yemetu, Oje Market and Ashi-Bodija, as well as the distribution of solar lights across strategic locations. She also oversaw the renovation of Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) shops at Yemetu following a fire incident.

These are projects that directly affect the daily lives of residents.

Access to water, lighting, functioning commercial spaces and safer communities may appear simple, but they are precisely the kinds of issues through which constituents experience the presence or absence of effective representation.

A Legislative Voice for Women and Social Inclusion

Hon. Comforter’s responsibilities also extend beyond constituency projects.

As Chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, her legislative responsibilities place issues affecting women, children and vulnerable members of society within her area of oversight.

Her advocacy on sexual and gender-based violence and other social issues demonstrates an effort to connect legislative responsibilities with the everyday concerns of citizens.

Her role also provides a platform through which issues of women’s welfare, social inclusion and the protection of vulnerable groups can receive legislative attention.

A Record That Deserves Another Mandate

No elected representative should be judged solely by political affiliation, personal popularity or campaign promises.

The more important question is: what has the representative done with the mandate already entrusted to her?

In the case of Hon. Comforter, the available reports point to interventions covering youth empowerment, education, security, community infrastructure, support for traders, vulnerable residents and social inclusion.

Taken together, these interventions present a picture of a representative whose approach to public service combines projects, empowerment, advocacy and compassion.

The APM has now given Hon. Comforter its ticket for Ibadan North Constituency I. The responsibility of the electorate is to examine her record and decide whether she has earned another opportunity to serve.

For me, the evidence makes the choice compelling.

Hon. Dr. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide remains the choice for Ibadan North Constituency I in 2027, not merely because she is seeking another mandate, but because her record provides reasons to believe that the mandate can be entrusted to her again.

The people of Ibadan North Constituency I deserve representation that is visible, responsive and people-centred. On the strength of her recent achievements and interventions, I believe Hon. Comforter deserves the support and votes of the people under the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

This is my personal opinion, based on publicly available reports and information concerning her activities and achievements in office.
